Art Deco

About this design

Art Deco turns the living room into an evening lounge. The walls are deep emerald with gold panel mouldings, the sofa is an emerald velvet Article Sven, and the wardrobe on the end wall is lacquered navy with brass lines and a mirror panel. Gold appears everywhere in measured amounts: a brass frame around the TV on the left, a CB2 marble-and-brass round coffee table, a chandelier, a velvet-and-brass Sylvia chair and a fan-patterned rug in dark green and gold. Under the window the IKEA MALM dressing table doubles as a slim desk. At 120 cm wide and only 41 cm deep it is a compact work spot that keeps the glamour, and a navy chest of drawers sits under the TV. A warm gold cove strip means the room looks richest after dark, and this design carries its own very dark night backdrop for that reason. Choose Art Deco if you want drama, luxury and geometry, and accept that deep colours need good lighting and a bit more care to keep looking sharp.

Layouts

Layout scheme B

Scheme B (mirrored): sofa on the right wall, TV on the left wall, desk by the window, floor-to-ceiling wardrobe on the end wall. In Art Deco the TV in its brass frame is on the left with the navy chest beneath it, the velvet sofa is on the right, and the dressing table under the window serves as the desk.

Each style uses one of four proven layouts. The plans are schematic; the window is at the top, the entrance door on the right, the wardrobe at the bottom.

Best for

People who want a hotel-lounge atmosphere at home and enjoy evenings in the living room more than daytime. It suits a room with warm artificial light and good curtains.

Tips

Use gold sparingly: three to five brass elements are enough. Put the chandelier and the cove strip on separate dimmers so you can set a gentle evening mood. Dark walls need good paint and flawless prep, so budget for it. Mirror panels double the light, but avoid placing a mirror directly opposite the window.

FAQ

Questions about the Art Deco design

Why is the Art Deco design so dark?

The emerald walls, navy wardrobe and dark wood are deliberate: Art Deco relies on deep colours and metallic contrast. The scene includes a very dark night backdrop, and the gold cove strip makes the room glow in the evening.

Is a dressing table a practical desk?

The IKEA MALM dressing table is 120×41×78 cm, so it fits a laptop and a small lamp. It is shallow, so for a large monitor or a lot of paperwork choose a deeper desk.

Which items are custom-made?

The wardrobe on the end wall (navy lacquer, brass lines, mirror) and the brass-framed TV with the navy chest are made to order. The sofa, chair, dressing table and coffee table are catalogue products with links.
