Scandinavian
About this design
Scandinavian is the lightest and most open design of the set. White walls, pale birch and oak and a soft grey sofa reflect as much daylight as the balcony door and the window let in, so the 17.8 m² room feels larger than it is. Comfort comes from textiles rather than ornament: a striped round rug, a cream throw over the IKEA SÖDERHAMN sofa and a mustard STRANDMON wing chair in the corner with a black RANARP reading lamp beside it. The layout is mirrored, with the sofa on the right and the TV on the left, so the reading corner catches the window light. Work happens at an oak RIDSPÖ desk along the right wall with a Wegner Wishbone chair, and a white BESTÅ TV bench on slim legs keeps the opposite wall visually quiet. The wardrobe on the end wall has white panels in a birch frame, and two live plants, a tree and a monstera, add the only strong green. Warm sunlight, soft grey shadows and a few well-chosen accents make this the easiest style to live with every day.
Layouts
Layout scheme B
Scheme B (mirrored): sofa on the right wall, TV on the left wall, desk by the window, floor-to-ceiling wardrobe on the end wall. The desk runs along the right wall next to the window, the mustard armchair and the reading lamp sit in the left corner near the window, and a round coffee table stays free in the middle of the room.
Each style uses one of four proven layouts. The plans are schematic; the window is at the top, the entrance door on the right, the wardrobe at the bottom.

Best for
Families and first-time buyers who want a bright, practical living room that is easy to keep tidy. It works well when daylight is limited and you want textiles and wood to do the warming.
Tips
Layer textiles instead of adding objects: a throw, two cushions and a rug are enough. Use the mustard armchair as the single bold colour and keep everything else white, grey and wood. Place plants near the window where they get light. Most of the pieces are mass-market, so check stock and exact colours before you order.
FAQ
Questions about the Scandinavian design
Which furniture is in the Scandinavian design?
An IKEA SÖDERHAMN sofa, an IKEA STRANDMON armchair, an IKEA RANARP lamp, an IKEA RIDSPÖ desk, a Carl Hansen CH24 Wishbone chair, an IKEA JAKOBSFORS coffee table and an IKEA BESTÅ TV unit. The white wardrobe is built to order.
Why is the layout mirrored in this style?
This design uses layout scheme B: the sofa is on the right wall and the TV on the left. That leaves the left corner by the window free for the reading chair and also puts the desk along the right wall.
Is Scandinavian a good choice for a small living room?
Yes. White walls, light wood and legged furniture keep the floor visible, which makes a 3.42 × 5.21 m room feel more open. The only large block is the wardrobe, and it is white so it blends into the wall.
